  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 3 cups peeled and diced apples (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt until well combined.
  2. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in sour cream until a soft dough forms.
  4. Divide dough in half, shape into disks, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  5. In a medium saucepan, combine apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch.
  6. Cook over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until apples are tender and mixture thickens slightly.
  7. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  9. Roll one disk of dough into a 12×6-inch rectangle.
  10. Spread half of the apple filling down the center of the dough.
  11. Fold long sides over the filling slightly overlapping each other; pinch to seal.
  12. Shape into an oval or ring; place seam side down on baking sheet. Repeat with remaining dough if desired.
  13. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and flaky.
  14. Cool slightly on a wire rack.
  15. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  16. Drizzle over cooled kringle before slicing.
